Ergonomics – Barrel Sauna Comfort  

Bathing comfort cannot be overlooked when investing in an outdoor sauna barrel. The diameter of the barrel and the bench/backrest configuration must be considered. Barrels with a small diameter may be priced lower (less materials), but the tradeoffs are door height, bench comfort, and headroom. Smaller diameter barrels have a tighter arc which can create seating posture challenges, impact standing upright, and require one to duck upon entry and exit. ERGO Series Sauna Barrels benefit from a 6’5” interior height. Due to its large diameter, benches can be ergonomically contoured and formfitting. The generous barrel arc can support an expansive and arched backrest for true lumbar support. Touch and feel were not ignored when selecting the knot-free, silky-smooth grade-A Thermo-Aspen seating material designed to hug most any body size.

Every SaunaLife barrel begins with industry-leading 1.65” thick full-length staves that encapsulate the sauna and provide exceptional thermal resistance (R-value). This chemical-free, eco-friendly wood is dimensionally stable and ideally suited for outdoor saunas. We even build showers out of it! Wood thickness is the theme in the SaunaLife ERGO Series and provides bathers with ergonomically crafted benches and backrests from Thermo-Aspen (1.1” thick and 3-1/2” wide) nearly 50% thicker than most.

It begins with industry-leading 1-7/8” wide and 1/8” thick stainless steel barrel bands that compress the massive staves and create your wellness retreat. Then, a watertight DIY shingle kit (a necessity for every barrel sauna) with side-mounted drip edges provides exceptional rainwater management. Inside the barrels are dual floor drains. One is purposefully placed under the sauna heater for your water-tossing pleasure. A second drain is near the door, where cold plunge or pool water may collect. Should this barrel shift out of level, these dual floor drains have you covered.  

Illumination – Inside and out 

Illuminating your barrel showcases the beauty of the wood and enhances your sauna experience. Only low-voltage and waterproof LED lighting will do. SaunaLife provides a superior white LED lighting system that is Wi-Fi app-based and allows one to set the ideal scene prior to entering the sauna. A hand-held remote control is also provided for on/off/dim operation. SaunaLife’s white LED fixture is heat and water certified (IP67) and is dotless so it provides an enchanting, even glow.
